Auto Repair Manuals for DIY

Auto repair manuals are a great place to start when beginning your next DIY auto repair project. We recommend starting with the basics and then getting more specific to your make and model as you learn.

Auto Repair for Dummies can be purchased affordably on Amazon.

This book provides a well-rounded, basic approach to understanding your vehicle and troubleshooting common issues.

Once you have a comfort level on how the various aspects of your vehicle work, you will want repair manuals that are specific to the model year and make of your vehicle. These manuals can easily be found and purchased at the publisher's website, Haynes.com.

Chilton’s is a well-known brand in auto repair technical manuals and has been around for more than 70 years.

Chilton’s is a mainstay for experienced mechanics. In 2001, Chilton’s sold to Haynes and both companies still publish auto repair manuals under both brands.

Haynes Auto Repair Manuals have more reference images and drawings and tend to be more supportive for new mechanics and DIY amateurs.

Our recommendation for new mechanics or do-it-yourselfers is to stick to the Haynes auto repair manuals.

For the more techy do-it-yourself auto repair novice, you can also purchase a subscription to the entire library of manuals online. These can easily be accessed via an app on your favorite smartphone.
